Usualmente cuando hablamos de Ambient, nos vienen algunos nombres directo a la cabeza, si bien el "género" ha ganado popularidad en los últimos años, y cada vez hay más artistas y disqueras dedicadas a este, desde su parte más "seria" hasta cosas más superficiales que rayan casi en el término "música de elevador", hay personas y personajes que han estado ahí desde antes que la mayoría.
Como alguien que creció escuchando música electrónica en sus diversas variantes y manifestaciones, hay ciertas disqueras que me marcaron, sobre todo en la etapa de la pubertad y adolescencia, una de ellas es la proveniente de la ciudad de Colonia, en Alemania, Kompakt, que en ese momento era sinónimo de vanguardia y marcaba la pauta a seguir por los demás, tanto en los ritmos más bailables y de club, hasta con sus compilaciones Pop Ambient.
Según los medios especializados, llaman el inventor del sonido "Pop Ambient" a Markus Guentner, músico electrónico, productor y DJ originario de Regensburg, Alemania.
Desde su debut en 2001 "In Moll", sus producciones no han hecho más que crecer en calidad y calidez, dejó claras sus habilidades en su tercer álbum "1981", mientras a la par firmaba álbumes más inducidos al dancefloor, minimal house de sensibilidad pop. En 2011 lanza el ya considerado un clásico "Crystal Castle", en la disquera Affin de Joachim Spieth, en 2012 colaboró con el EP "Talking Clouds" de la serie Places del sitio convertido en disquera A Strangely Isolated Place, donde encontraría la casa perfecta para sus posteriores álbumes, ya que desde 2015 ha editado sus más recientes cuatro LP's en la label norteamericana, "Theia", "Empire", en donde colaboran bvdub y Julia Kent, "Gradient Spirits" y "Extropy" el año pasado. Y por supuesto, sus apariciones en la citada serie anual Pop Ambient.
Tan sólo una síntesis de la larga y fructífera carrera del alemán.
Es así, que es para mi un gusto y honor tener una sesión hecha por Markus, la número 20, sin duda un número especial y justo cuando Ambient Sessions está cumpliendo un año de vida.
